Developing the ECS

In the spirit of the 2008 Horserace, Horserace08 is currently developing the Election Championship Series. The ECS will be a computer-based ranking system similar to the Bowl Championship Series used for ranking bowl-eligible college football teams. The ECS will take into account varying factors in order to develop a weekly ranking of the many potential candidates for the next presidential election. Such factors include, but are not limited to, money raised, good and bad mainstream media coverage received, name recognition, Senate or House voting records, etc. Horserace08 must credit The Next Prez for the original idea of a weekly ranking system. However, the ECS will be less narrative in nature in order to provide a new way of evaluating the wide array of candidates that the mainstream media are considering viable presidential hopefuls. Horserace08 will be developing the system over the Thanksgiving holiday, so stay tuned...
If you have any suggestions for the development of the ECS (including factors that should be included), leave a comment. It's an Open Source Project, so everyone's input is welcome. And don't worry, USC won't be able to cheat their way to the top of this system.

The BCS uses several computer rankings, each with its own formula, and also two "human polls". Where will these human polls come from? Does Gallup run polls on this consistently? At the very least, you can use a readers' poll as one of your human polls.
Some criteria:
--Fundraising
--Mentions in major newspapers (via nexus/lexis)
--Others are qualitative: endorsements, for example.
The ECS system will not be an exact replica of the BCS. Obviously, there won't be an uncountable number of human polls involved. I have given some consideration to using The Next Prez weekly ranking as a factor. But other than that, there will be little human input other than my own subjective analysis of what is going on in the Horserace. If you know of any credible human rankings that are available, let me know so that I can include them. Other criteria, as policybyblog pointed out, will include funds raised, MSM coverage, endorsements, appearances, etc.
Saw on a news show a map of the country that displayed where each of the contenders was campaign-stopping. That would help visualize what they are doing.

2 quick comments/questions:
1. Yes, some human polls will be used. For example, The Next Prez weekly listing will be factored in.
2. Do you know where I can find the map you're refering to, policy?
(This is the post I deleted, I had a couple of mispellings and wanted to fix them.)
